Athens Airport, the largest airport in Greece, has concluded March on a positive note, but with slower growth than in previous months.

According to official airport data published last night (April 6, 2026), passenger traffic in the past month increased by 3.8% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 2,306,577 passengers compared to 2,223,179 the previous year.

The number of passengers on international flights increased by 3.4% to 1,671,250, while passenger traffic on domestic flights increased by 4.8% to 606,158.

Growth Continues, But at a Slower Pace

In the first three months of 2026, passenger traffic totaled 6.28 million, up 8.1% compared to 2025 levels. At the same time, the number of passengers on domestic and international flights exceeded last year's figures by 7.1% and 8.5%, respectively.

However, it should be noted that growth in March is significantly slower than in previous months, before the outbreak of the war. Combining domestic and international flights, January saw growth of 8.6%, and February saw dramatic growth of 13.2% for the winter months.

Looking Ahead

Looking long-term, Athens Airport is planning a significant expansion to meet growing demand.

With a record of almost 34 million passengers in 2025, the airport is planning a major development project estimated at 1.3 billion euros that will increase capacity to 40 million passengers annually. Tenders for the expansion of the main terminals and the satellite terminal at the airport will also be closed in the second half of 2026.
