Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) concluded March 2026 with an increase in passenger numbers. However, the airport, one of Europe's most important, noted that the situation in the Middle East and a warning strike that took place during the month affected aircraft movements.
According to official data, last month, a total of 1,977,366 passengers passed through the airport, an increase of about 1.2% compared to March 2025, when 1,954,301 passengers were recorded.
The busiest day of the month was recorded on March 27, 2026, when 81,729 passengers passed through the airport.
The Impact of the Situation in the Middle East
Alongside the warning strike on March 18t that resulted in the cancellation of 430 takeoffs and landings, the war in the Middle East has had a significant impact on aircraft movements to Berlin in the past month.
During the month, 14,682 aircraft movements were carried out, a decrease of approximately 3.6% compared to the same period last year, when 15,227 movements were recorded.
Airlines canceled about 450 flights between Berlin and destinations in the Middle East, including Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Tel Aviv and Beirut.
The air cargo sector also recorded a significant decline. During March 2026, approximately 2,867 tons of cargo were handled at the airport, compared to 4,315 tons in March 2025, a dramatic decrease of approximately one-third.
