Schiphol Airport has announced a temporary reduction of more than 10% in airport fees for airlines, in light of the significant and unexpected increase in operating costs, mainly due to rising fuel prices.

The move comes against the backdrop of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, which has led to a sharp increase in fuel prices and burdened airlines.

Schiphol notes that maintaining the Netherlands' connectivity to the world is considered critical, especially in the current period, both economically and for the purpose of ensuring supplies, food, and the ability to return citizens to the country when necessary.

The discount will go into effect on April 27, 2026, and will last until March 31, 2027. It will apply to daytime flights only, with night flights excluded from the benefit, as part of an ongoing policy to reduce nighttime activity for environmental and noise reasons.

It was also reported that the move is expected to temporarily affect the airport's financial results, but not its long-term investment plans. Schiphol emphasizes that financial strength is maintained, while balancing operating costs, fares, financing and investments.

As we reported in recent days, the largest airline in the Netherlands, KLM, recently announced a significant reduction in its operations due to the recent surge in fuel prices.

According to the company's announcement, about 80 flights to and from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport will be canceled. This is less than 1% of the company's total European flights during this period, but a move that indicates the growing economic pressure on the industry.
