Reason for Concern? Second Earthquake Hits Crete in Just Three Days, As Tourism Season Starts

For the second time in just three days, a powerful earthquake was recorded in Crete. This time too, the epicenter was southeast of the popular island, which began its tourist season this month.

The magnitude of the earthquake this time was lower than the previous one, at 4.4. The epicenter was in the southeast of the island, about 100 kilometers south of Heraklion.

As a reminder, a more significant 5.8 earthquake was recorded in the area on Friday morning. No injuries or damage were reported in either Friday or today's earthquake. However, in both cases, the tremor was reportedly felt on the island.

Last year, as we covered in detail, a series of earthquakes was recorded in the Santorini region, which significantly harmed tourism there at the end of the year, although there were no casualties and the damage was described as only minor.
