Southwest Airlines has joined the celebrations, introducing a new aircraft with a special patriotic livery to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Source: Southwest Airlines The aircraft, named “Independence One,” joins two other existing themed designs in the airline’s fleet, “Freedom One” and the newly introduced “Liberty One,” reflecting American symbols and heritage. The move comes as part of nationwide celebrations tied to America250, which will mark 250 years since the country’s founding.

Entering Service Today
The newly designed aircraft features the classic red, white, and blue theme, together with several historical references, including the year 1776 displayed in large script and a quote from the Declaration of Independence.

The livery also features 13 stars representing the original colonies, with more details visible on the engines and tail.
“Independence One” will officially enter service today, April 29, 2026, on a maiden flight from Dallas to Philadelphia, a route chosen for its historical significance as the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.

Southwest also announced a new partnership with America250, a "national nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in celebrating and commemorating the Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence".
The carrier has become the official airline of the “America Gives” initiative, which aims to encourage volunteerism across the country. Southwest has already announced its intention to invest up to $250,000 to support nonprofit organizations connected to employee volunteer work.
