While some low-cost airlines are developing a business class, non-low-cost airlines are also appealing to the segment of passengers looking for extremely cheap flights.
Latvian airline airBaltic has announced the launch of a new ticket type called Economy MINI, designed for passengers with minimal baggage. The new ticket will be sold at the company's lowest fare level, and will be available for purchase via the company's website, app and call center starting today, May 6, 2026.
The ticket includes only one personal bag measuring up to 40x30x15 cm, and is intended primarily for short trips, such as weekend vacations during the summer. Additional services such as a trolley, checked baggage, or meals are not included in the basic price, but can be added for a fee during booking.
In doing so, the company joins the low-cost model currently common among European airlines, which allows passengers to pay only for the services they actually use. Economy MINI joins the company's five existing ticket types, which include a trolley suitcase, and is positioned below the Economy BASIC ticket.
The company operates a network of approximately 80 destinations in Europe and beyond, with a fleet of 55 Airbus A220-300 aircraft. In 2025, the company was among the first in Europe to offer Starlink-based high-speed internet on its flights.
The company is majority-owned by the Latvian state, which holds approximately 88.37% of its shares, alongside a 10% holding by the Lufthansa Group .
