Swiss airline SWISS has announced the expansion of its route network ahead of the 2026-2027 winter season, with a new and first-of-its-kind destination for the company in southern India, the city of Bangalore.
As part of the move, the company will operate a new route with a frequency of five weekly flights between Zurich and Bangalore, which will be SWISS' third destination in India alongside Delhi and Mumbai. This is a strategic move designed to strengthen the company's presence in the Indian market, with an emphasis on growing demand from business travelers and the high-tech industry.
Bangalore is considered one of Asia's leading centers for technology, innovation and startups, and serves as a hub for many international companies. According to the company, the new route is expected to serve both business and leisure travelers, as well as serve as a convenient gateway to southern India.
The route will be operated by the latest Airbus A350, SWISS' flagship aircraft. Departure from Zurich will be at noon, arriving in Bangalore the next day, and in the opposite direction, departure early in the morning, arriving in Switzerland the same day.
In addition to expanding its operations in India, SWISS announced that it will expand the use of its new A350 fleet to additional long-haul routes. The company already operates flights to destinations such as Boston and Seoul, and is now expected to expand service to Johannesburg and Shanghai.
The move is part of the company's implementation of its new in-flight experience under the SWISS Senses brand, which includes an upgrade to the cabin and improved service across all classes. According to the company, the A350 fleet is expected to grow to five aircraft by the end of the year.
In addition to the changes to the international network, the company also announced adjustments to its operations from Geneva. Some short-haul destinations will be removed from the flight schedule, including Berlin, Hamburg and Pristina, following limitations in the supply of aircraft parts and engines for the A220 fleet. At the same time, the company will continue to operate a variety of European and international destinations from Zurich, including dozens of short- and long-haul routes.
SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger: "Our new Bengaluru service is particularly aimed at meeting the growing demand among the business community for direct flights to this major technology hub
