Photo Royal Carribean Mexico's Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), through the voice of Environment Secretary Alicia Barcena, has announced that Royal Caribbean's "Perfect Day" project has not been approved in Mahahual, Quintana Roo.
"Let me inform you that the Royal Caribbean 'Perfect Day' project is not going to be approved. So they receive the exclusive information. We also know that the company is also looking to give up on the project itself, but we, as SEMARNAT, are not going to approve it."
Considered the Cruine Line's most innovative and ambitious destination, Perfect Day Mexico was supposed to open in the fall of 2027 and span across more than 800 acres on the Caribbean coast.
The project was envisioned with seven neighborhoods meant to offer an unprecedented blend of adrenaline, relaxation, and local culture, suitable for travelers of all ages.
At the core of the destination, Royal Caribbean projected the Loco Waterpark, an enormous water park boasting over 30 slides across five slide towers, with a slide tower soaring over 52 meters high, the tallest in North and South America, as a highlight. The project also envisioned six pools, 12 dining spots, 24 drinkeries, and three beaches.
The development was supposed to be carried out in collaboration with the Mexican government and local communities, according to the cruise line's commitment to sustainable development under the SEA the Future initiative.
As of today, May 20, 2026, the Royal Caribbean website continues to offer an active "Join the Wishlist" button for sign-up and destination updates.
