Amtrak is advising passengers traveling through Boston this summer to expect significant delays and access challenges around Boston South Station due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a service update, the rail operator said the tournament will impact access to the station from June 13 through July 9, 2026, as large crowds, road closures, and increased traffic are expected throughout the area.
According to Amtrak, customers may experience difficulties getting into or out of Boston South Station during the event period and should allow extra time for their journeys.
To help avoid congestion, the company is encouraging passengers to consider using Boston Back Bay Station, another major Amtrak stop located nearby.
"Road closures and heavy traffic will make it difficult for customers to get into or out of Boston South Station," Amtrak said in its advisory.
The transportation provider urged travelers to plan ahead and arrive earlier than usual, particularly on days when World Cup matches and related fan events are taking place in the city.
Amtrak also reminded customers that reservation information and real-time train status updates are available through its website, mobile app, station personnel, and customer service channels.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to draw millions of visitors and create increased demand on transportation networks in host cities throughout the tournament.
