A sudden strike action at Belgian air traffic control provider Skeyes on June 2, 2026 has led to major disruption at Brussels Airport, with all flights scheduled between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. being canceled.

The industrial action was not announced in advance, prompting immediate operational restrictions and forcing airlines to suspend departures and arrivals during the affected time window.

Brussels South Charleroi Airport has also been affected by the same strike and was forced to ground large numbers of flights throughout the day.

The first disruption occurred in the morning, when air traffic controllers launched a work stoppage between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., leading to the cancellation of numerous flights and causing delays across the national aviation network.

A second and more extended stoppage followed in the afternoon, beginning at 2:15 p.m. and bringing operations at Charleroi Airport to a standstill. As a result, all flights scheduled to depart or arrive from 2:15 p.m. onward were canceled.

Airport authorities confirmed that no flights will operate to or from Brussels Airport between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. and advised passengers not to travel to the airport during those hours.

In a statement shared with passengers, officials said: “All flights to and from Brussels Airport between 2 pm and 9 pm will unfortunately have to be canceled by the airlines. Please do not come to the airport if you are flying between 2 pm and 9 pm.”

At the same time, the airport's website informs passengers that "Flights scheduled between 7 pm and 9 pm will be delayed until after 9 pm if possible. We regret the inconvenience for our passengers caused by this strike."

Travelers are advised to check directly with their airlines for updated flight information before heading to the airport.

Passengers bound to fly from Brussels South Charleroi Airport after 9:00 PM "are advised to check their flight status on their airline’s website.”

The airport added: “Brussels South Charleroi Airport regrets the impact of this skeyes strike on its passengers’ travel plans and is doing everything possible to restore normal operations as soon as possible.”

Both airports warned that knock-on delays could continue even after operations resume, as airlines work to reposition aircraft and crews following the disruption.

Passengers across Belgium were advised to monitor airline updates closely and avoid traveling to the airport unless their flight status had been confirmed.
