Spain's national carrier, chosen to carry the national soccer team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup as well as the Pope during his recent visit to the country, Iberia, has today, June 10, 2026, announced an expansion of long-haul connectivity from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport with extra frequencies on its Tokyo and Panama routes during the peak summer season.

The airline will also add a new Friday departure in both directions. The route, operated by the Airbus A350, will offer around 9,000 extra seats, marking a 33% capacity boost.

Iberia says the expansion responds to rising demand across both Asia and Latin America, strengthening Madrid’s role as a key intercontinental hub.
