In a travel advisory shared today, June 3, 2026, Aena urged passengers heading to Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport to take into account a special mobility plan being introduced across the Spanish capital during the Pope's visit.
The Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid (CRTM) and the Community of Madrid have announced additional services on Metro de Madrid, EMT Madrid buses, and intercity transport routes, along with operational adjustments aimed at improving passenger movement across the city.

The measures are intended to help residents and visitors navigate the city more efficiently as large numbers of people are expected to travel during the papal visit.
At the same time, Cernacias Madrid, the Renfe-operated commuter rail network connecting the center of Madrid with the metropolitan area and surrpounding cities, has also advised the public "avoid waits in acquiring tickets" by purchasing tickets in advance, and also making sure to obtain return ticket.
"In the event of the risk of crowds, access may be restricted or station closures may occur on several lines,' the company warned.

At the same time, Madrid Airport is marking another notable occasion. Cathay Pacific is celebrating 10 years of operations between Madrid and Hong Kong, a route that has strengthened air connectivity between Spain and Asia over the past decade.
According to Aena, the airline currently operates four weekly flights between Madrid and Hong Kong, with services scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The anniversary was commemorated during a special event held at a boarding gate at the airport, attended by representatives from both Aena and Cathay Pacific.

Aena highlighted both achievements in its announcement, noting Cathay Pacific's decade of service in Madrid and its long history in global aviation.
With transport authorities preparing for increased demand during the Pope's visit and one of its long haul airline partners celebrating a significant anniversary, Madrid Barajas Airport is experiencing a week that reflects both the operational and international dimensions of one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs.
