Cyprus' airport management company, Hermes Airports, reports that the low-cost carrier Wizz Air will significantly expand its operations at Larnaca International Airport, one of its main bases in the region.
According to the new plan, Wizz Air will launch a new route between Larnaca and Madrid, operating three times a week, while also increasing flight frequencies on several key routes:
Athens: Resumption of operations with up to 14 weekly flights.
Barcelona: Increase from 3 to 4 weekly flights.
Bucharest: Increase from 5 to 7 weekly flights.
Kutaisi (Georgia): Additional frequencies.
Iași in Romania: Additional frequencies.
Tel Aviv: Increase from 7 to 11 flights a week

Cyprus Becomes a Major Hub for Europe
The current move further strengthens Cyprus’ position as a regional hub for Wizz Air. While many airlines operate Cyprus as a destination only, Wizz Air sees Larnaca as a significant strategic base that allows it to operate an extensive flight network to Europe, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
For the company, Cyprus enjoys an ideal geographical location between Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, allowing it to offer broad connectivity to a variety of destinations.
