Travelers across Italy are being advised to check train schedules before heading to stations after a series of disruptions caused delays, cancellations, and route changes on several major rail corridors on Friday.

One of the most significant impacts is being felt on the Orte to Rome to Fiumicino Airport line, a key connection for passengers traveling to and from Rome's main international gateway. Scheduled maintenance work at Roma Ostiense station is expected to affect services through Sunday, June 21, 2026, with delays and cancellations possible during morning hours.

At the same time, traffic near Orte has been severely slowed by technical inspections on the railway infrastructure. According to railway operators, Intercity and regional trains may experience delays of up to 70 minutes, while some services have been partially canceled or diverted.

Among the affected services, Intercity train IC 533 from Ancona to Rome Termini terminated its journey in Orte, with replacement buses arranged for passengers continuing to Rome. Meanwhile, IC 588 from Rome to Trieste departed from Orte instead of Rome Termini.

High-speed rail services have also been impacted. Frecciarossa 8810 from Bari to Milan was diverted onto a conventional rail line between Reggio Emilia and Milan, adding approximately one hour to the journey.

Elsewhere in the country, train traffic remains suspended between Caltanissetta Xirbi and Villarosa in Sicily following an accident at a level crossing. Regional services on the route have been canceled or shortened, while replacement bus services have been introduced to assist passengers.

In the Naples area, rail traffic between Naples Campi Flegrei and Pozzuoli remains suspended due to technical inspections on the line. Regional trains are facing cancellations and route restrictions, with buses operating in place of affected services.

Passengers traveling by train in Sardinia next week should be aware of potential disruptions due to a planned strike by Trenitalia staff in the region.

The industrial action is scheduled to take place from 9:01 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Train services may also be affected in the hours leading up to the strike and shortly after it ends, meaning delays, cancellations, or schedule changes could extend beyond the official strike period.

Travelers who decide not to proceed with their journey can request a full refund from the date the strike was announced until midnight on the day before the strike begins. Alternatively, passengers may choose to rebook their trip on the first available service under comparable travel conditions, subject to seat availability.

Trenitalia advises passengers to check the latest travel information before departing. Updates on train services are available through the Trenitalia app, the Infomobility section of the company's website, by calling a toll-free number, or directly at station ticket offices and customer service desks.
