Iberia has reached a significant milestone in passenger experience, with the first aircraft in the company's fleet equipped with the Starlink satellite internet system taking off from Madrid to Sao Paulo this week.
Iberia’s first Starlink-equipped aircraft, bearing the registration EC-MAA, has entered commercial service and is offering passengers free high-speed internet in all classes of service. This makes Iberia the first Spanish airline to operate SpaceX’s connectivity technology, while other European airlines are advancing plans to integrate the system into their fleets.
The company notes that browsing speeds may reach up to 500 Mbps, with the service being provided free of charge to passengers in the economy, premium economy, and business classes.
As a reminder, the current move was announced back in November 2025, in what is a direct continuation of the announcement by the IAG group, the parent company of Iberia, of a strategic collaboration with Starlink to implement high-speed satellite internet on more than 500 aircraft of the group's companies. Now, with the first Iberia aircraft entering commercial service, the plan moves from the announcement stage to implementation, with the Spanish company the first in the group to operate the system on its flights.
"We are delighted to become the first Spanish airline to offer the fastest onboard internet connection currently available on the market,” said Beatriz Guillén, Iberia’s Director of Customer Experience, adding: "We know that staying connected gate-to-gate is very important for our customers, whether they are travelling for business or leisure, and, thanks to this new service, we will significantly enhance their onboard experience. Furthermore, this project reflects our commitment to innovation and digitalization, two key pillars of Flight Plan 2030".
