The powerful earthquakes continue, and a day after a series of earthquakes with magnitudes over 7 struck Venezuela's capital, Caracas, the earth is also shaking in the east.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. PT, a massive 6.9-magnitude quake struck about 18 miles east of Kuji in northern Japan, about one hundred kilometers north of the capital Tokyo.

A lower-intensity earthquake was felt in the Chiba region near Tokyo, but, according to local media reports, it was also felt strongly in parts of the capital city.

Venezuela: Death Toll Continues to Rise

Venezuela's Health Minister Carlos Alberto has given an update on the death toll from the earthquake in the country. "Unfortunately, we have received approximately 235 people who arrived without signs of life or who died upon arrival at hospitals," the minister said in a statement broadcast on the country's state television.

Last night, the Spanish airline Iberia announced the cancellation of all its flights to and from Caracas following disruptions caused at Maiquetia International Airport after the earthquake.

Maiquetia International Airport, which serves the capital of Venezuela, is the main gateway to the country, and it is estimated that the disruptions are also expected to affect other airlines operating international flights to the region.
