Tourists who are currently in Rome or who plan on arriving in the city tomorrow (Saturday, June 27) are advised to prepare in advance as the city's taxi drivers will hold a 24-hour general strike, resulting in a significant shortage of taxis throughout the city.

The strike is expected to particularly affect the main tourist areas, Termini train station and Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) airports. As a reminder, on June 13, Italy's aviation network experienced a difficult day as four separate strikes impacted airlines, airports and air traffic services.

Tips On Getting to the Affected Airports

To get to Fiumicino Airport, you can either use the Leonardo Express via a direct train from Termini station to the airport (departing every 15–30 minutes) or the FL1 train, suitable if you will be arriving from stations such as Trastevere, Ostiense and Tiburtina.

You can also opt for shuttle buses from companies like Terravision and SIT which operate direct lines, but do expect congestion.

If you need to reach Ciampino Airport, you can use the shuttle buses from Termini station, or the Ciampino Airlink service, which combines train and bus.

Within the city, the Rome Metro (lines A and B) is expected to operate as usual and is the most efficient way to get around the main sites.

You can also use Uber Black or FreeNow, but due to the strike, a significant increase in travel prices is expected.

Important Recommendation

If you have a flight tomorrow, it is recommended to leave for the airport at least an hour earlier than planned, to avoid delays.

Tickets can be purchased at:

-Tabacchi stores (with the letter T)

-Vending machines at metro and train stations

-Kiosks and newsstands

-MooneyGo and TicketAppy apps

-Or using Tap & Go with a contactless credit card on some lines.

The most common card for tourists is the BIT, which allows travel for 100 minutes on the metro, buses, and trams.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to purchase a ticket from the driver, so it is recommended to get a ticket in advance or use contactless payment.
