The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has launched a new travel safety campaign, "Stick With Your Mates," encouraging young people traveling overseas with friends to take simple precautions that can help prevent emergencies during holidays.
The campaign comes as many Britons head abroad for the summer, reminding travelers that while holidays are about enjoying the sun, beaches and nightlife, problems can arise when people become separated, drink excessively or let their guard down.
Tips to Keep You Safe
The FCDO advises holidaymakers to check official travel advice before departure, purchase comprehensive travel insurance and keep copies of important documents in case their phones are lost or stolen. Travelers are also encouraged to share their itineraries and insurance details with family or friends before leaving the UK.
Authorities recommend using a dedicated messaging app to set up a group chat and share your location at all times. If one of your friends wanders off, this could help you find them.
"Wherever you are, if your mate is looking worse for wear, keep them away from roads or dangerous heights, and let bar or hotel staff know if they need medical attention," adds the FCDO.
- Other similar tips include moving away "if someone someone is annoying your group", with special emphasis on staying together during nights out. The campaign urges groups to "arrive together, leave together" and to avoid leaving friends behind if someone becomes vulnerable or requires assistance.

It is also important to stay updated on the latest legislative changes in the countries you plan to visit to know what to expect and to avoid fines. If your summer travel plans include France, be aware that Paris has recently announced a ban on consuming alcoholic beverages in public amid the current heat wave. Also, the city has restricted takeaway alcohol sales for the same reason.
The FCDO says anyone who feels unsafe should seek help from venue staff or local emergency services.

The campaign also includes advice for festival-goers, recommending they keep passports and valuables secure, remain with friends, stay hydrated in hot weather and use licensed taxis or reputable ride-sharing services when returning to accommodation.
