Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) marked a milestone today (July 3, 2026) with the launch of a direct Air Canada route to Montreal. This is a new long-haul route connecting the German capital with the largest city in the province of Quebec.
In the first phase, the line will operate three times a week, on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays until September 6. The company has already opened ticket sales for the 2027 summer season, when the line is expected to operate four times a week, from early June to mid-October.
The inaugural flight was operated by a Boeing 787-8, but from July 19 the route will be switched to regular service using the new Airbus A321XLR. This will be the first time the new model has been operated regularly on a long-haul route to Germany. The aircraft has 182 seats, including 14 in business class and 168 in economy class.
The flight from Berlin to Montreal takes about 8 hours and 40 minutes, while the return flight takes about an hour. Through Air Canada's hub in Montreal, passengers can continue on to many destinations across Canada, the United States and the rest of North America.
Air Canada noted that the A321XLR aircraft allows the company to open new transatlantic routes more efficiently, while maintaining the level of service and comfort that passengers are familiar with.
BER Airport emphasized that the introduction of the new aircraft into commercial service symbolizes the combination of technological innovation, operational efficiency, and reduced environmental impact, and is expected to contribute to the continued expansion of Berlin's international route network.
