Struck in the Air? 4th of July Celebration Ends With Firework Scare for Delta Flight

A Delta flight from Atlanta landed safely at Chicago Midway after the pilot reported a fireworks mortar struck the aircraft. The FAA is investigating the incident

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after the pilot of a Delta Air Lines flight reported that a fireworks mortar struck the aircraft as it approached Chicago Midway International Airport on the evening of July 4.

According to the FAA, Delta Flight 1076 landed safely at around 8:30 p.m. local time on Saturday after the pilot reported that a fireworks mortar hit the aircraft shortly before touchdown.

The flight had departed from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport and completed its landing without incident.

No injuries were reported, and the FAA did not immediately provide information on the extent of any damage to the aircraft.

The agency said it has opened an investigation into the incident.
