Global airline operations faced mounting pressure in June as strikes, severe weather, and air traffic control (ATC) restrictions disrupted schedules across several major markets.
Despite these challenges, worldwide on-time performance (OTP) remained resilient at 86.00% across 165,346 tracked flights, according to Cirium's latest monthly On-Time Performance report.
Europe and North America, Most Affected
The report highlighted stark regional differences, with Europe and North America experiencing the greatest operational difficulties during the month.
Europe recorded an on-time performance of 80.59%, as airlines contended with labor strikes, severe weather events, and ongoing air traffic control capacity restrictions. North America saw the sharpest month-over-month decline, with OTP falling from 79.30% in May to 75.54% in June, largely due to widespread convective storms and limited schedule flexibility that made it difficult for airlines to recover from disruptions.
Despite the operational challenges, Saudia retained its position as the world's most punctual airline, posting an impressive 92.38% on-time performance. The Saudi flag carrier outperformed competitors across all global regions, demonstrating strong operational reliability during one of the year's more challenging travel periods.
Regional leaders also delivered strong performances. Flyadeal topped the Middle East and Africa rankings, while Jeju Air led Asia Pacific carriers. WestJet claimed the highest on-time performance in North America, Turkish Airlines ranked first in Europe, and Sky Airline emerged as the most punctual carrier in Latin America.
The June figures underscore the continued pressure on global aviation networks as airlines navigate increasing weather-related disruptions, infrastructure constraints, and staffing challenges during the busy summer travel season.
Cirium's monthly On-Time Performance reports measure airline and airport punctuality worldwide, providing insight into operational reliability across the aviation industry. Despite localized disruptions, the latest results suggest that airlines have largely maintained strong global performance through improved operational resilience and recovery planning.
