Thai bar in Hangover movie. Photo: Shutterstock The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Major Cineplex Group have partnered to launch the "Thai Thai, Travel by the Movies" campaign, an initiative designed to promote film tourism and encourage visitors to explore Thailand's secondary cities.
Running from July through September 2026, the campaign invites participants to share photos and personal stories from locations featured in Thai films for a chance to win hotel stays and movie tickets.
The initiative aims to capitalize on the growing popularity of film tourism, which has helped destinations around the world attract visitors seeking to experience the settings of their favorite movies and television productions.
By highlighting Thai film locations, organizers hope to drive tourism beyond the country's traditional hotspots and showcase lesser-known destinations across Thailand.
Thailand has long been one of Asia's most sought-after filming destinations, attracting major Hollywood and international productions for decades. Some of the country's most famous on-screen appearances include The Beach (2000), filmed at Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Leh, The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), which showcased the dramatic limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay, and The Hangover Part II (2011), set across several locations in Bangkok.
