Rome Fiumicino Airport. Photo: Alexanderstock23 / Shutterstock.com Rome Fiumicino Airport has officially inaugurated OPEN – FCO Smart Workplace, a new business hub designed to support the airport's continued expansion and strengthen its role as one of Europe's leading aviation gateways.
Located overlooking Terminal 1, the state-of-the-art office complex was developed between January 2024 and April 2026 and is intended to serve airlines, ground handling providers, mobility companies, and international businesses operating at the airport.
The facility can accommodate up to 600 people and features 70 offices and 35 meeting rooms, offering a modern and flexible workspace at the heart of Italy's busiest airport. Several leading airlines, ground handling firms, and car rental companies are expected to establish their headquarters within the building.

Sustainability is a central feature of the new complex. OPEN incorporates energy-efficient technologies, photovoltaic panels, smart building management systems, and artificial intelligence-powered safety solutions designed to improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
The opening also included the unveiling of Continuum, a site-specific artwork created by Italian artist Michela Picchi. The installation was designed to complement the collaborative nature of the building and reflects Aeroporti di Roma's ambition to create infrastructure that delivers long-term value for its partners, employees, and the local community.
The launch of OPEN comes as Rome Fiumicino Airport continues to invest in its future, with plans aimed at increasing annual passenger capacity to 100 million by 2046. The new workplace hub is expected to play a strategic role in supporting the airport's growing ecosystem and attracting international aviation businesses to the Italian capital.
