Athens Airport is enjoying impressive passenger numbers this summer, more than ever before. During July 2026, 3.93 million passengers passed through the airport, the largest of Greece's airports, an increase of 4.7% compared to the same period last year.
Passenger traffic on domestic routes increased by 3.4%, while international traffic jumped 5.3%, indicating the continued strengthening of Greece as a sought-after tourist destination and Athens' status as the main gateway to the country.
Start of the Year: 4.5% Growth
Between January and July 2026, approximately 19.68 million passengers passed through the airport, representing an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period in 2025. During this period, passenger traffic on domestic flights increased by 4.7%, while international traffic increased by 4.4%.
Athens Airport was recently ranked among the best airports in Europe in the "giant airports" category (25-40 million passengers per year), an achievement that strengthens its status as one of the fastest-growing airports on the continent, despite the geopolitical challenges in the area.
