American Airlines. Photo: Markus Mainka / Shutterstock.com American Airlines is expanding its international network in 2027 with seven new routes and three new destinations, giving travelers more nonstop options across Europe and Asia.
The airline will operate daily service on all of its new summer 2027 international routes. Tickets for the new services will go on sale August 31, 2026, through American's website and mobile app.
Brian Znotins, American's Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, said the airline is expanding its network while continuing to invest in its premium products and inflight experience.
Philadelphia International Airport will gain three new destinations in American's network next year: Porto, Portugal; Reykjavik, Iceland; and Vienna, Austria.
Flights to Porto and Vienna will mark the first time American has served either destination. The airline will return to Reykjavik for the first time since 2019.
The Philadelphia-to-Vienna route will launch on May 6, 2027, using an Airbus A321XLR. American plans to extend the service through early January 2028, allowing travelers to visit Vienna during the Christmas market season.
American said it will be the only U.S. airline serving Vienna, strengthening its Central European network after adding Prague and Budapest in 2026.
The airline will also launch Philadelphia-Porto and Philadelphia-Reykjavik service on May 27. Porto will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR, while Reykjavik will use an Airbus A321neo.
American will add two European routes from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Amsterdam. Photo: ShutterstockService to Amsterdam begins March 28, 2027, using an Airbus A321XLR. The new route will complement American's existing Amsterdam services from Dallas-Fort Worth and Philadelphia.
On May 6, American will launch nonstop service from JFK to Nice, France, also using an A321XLR. The route will provide direct access to the French Riviera and destinations including Cannes, Antibes, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Èze.
The airline will also restore a fourth daily JFK-London Heathrow flight from March 28. The service will use a Boeing 787-9 equipped with Flagship Suite seats.
Together with British Airways, American says travelers will have access to as many as 14 daily flights between New York and London.
Tokyo, Japan. Photo: ShutterstockAmerican will also strengthen its Asia network with a new route between Chicago O'Hare and Tokyo Narita.
The service will begin on March 19, 2027, using a Boeing 787-9, timed in part to meet growing interest in Japan's cherry blossom season.
Through its partnership with Japan Airlines, American customers will also be able to connect beyond Tokyo to destinations across East and Southeast Asia.
Barcelona. Photo: ShutterstockOn May 27, American will launch nonstop service between Charlotte and Barcelona, operated by a Boeing 777-200ER.
The route will make Barcelona American's sixth U.S. gateway to the Spanish city. The airline says it already offers more service to Barcelona than any other U.S. carrier.
American will also extend the seasonal schedules of two existing routes. Charlotte-Paris will begin March 4, while Miami-Milan service will also return on March 4, responding to increased demand for spring travel to Europe.
The airline's 2027 expansion comes alongside its continued investment in premium international travel.
American's Flagship Suite product, introduced on London services in 2025, will continue operating on selected routes in 2027. The Boeing 787-9 aircraft serving the additional JFK-London flight will feature Flagship Suite seats.
American says its network, combined with its international airline partners, will provide access to more than 1,000 destinations worldwide. Its partnership with British Airways is particularly important on the transatlantic network, while Japan Airlines will support onward connections from Tokyo.
