Air Canada is preparing for a major expansion of its route network for Smmer 2027. Instead of immediately revealing the new destinations, the airline turned the announcement into a mystery game
Air Canada knows how to generate interest around an airline announcement. Instead of publishing a dry list of new routes, the Canadian airline opened September with a particularly intriguing move: its new destinations for summer 2027 are already hidden in a video, but the company still isn't saying where it will fly.
In a move similar to United Airlines' latest reality TV-style campaign challenging travelers to decode its new 2027 destinations, Air Canada released a new video as part of preparations for what it defines as a significant expansion of its route network for summer 2027. In the video, the company included a series of clues and Easter Eggs, each of which may point to one of the new destinations that will be officially revealed in two days, on September 3.
In other words, the announcement has already begun, and only the names still remain behind the scenes.
Air Canada invites aviation, travel, and puzzle enthusiasts to watch the video, identify small details, and try to decipher which cities and countries the company is targeting. At this stage, it is not revealing how many new destinations will be added, which airports in Canada the routes will depart from, or whether they are primarily in Europe, Asia, Latin America, or a combination of several regions.
Rather than a one-time announcement, Air Canada is building exposure over several days, making its network expansion an event. For an airline that currently operates direct flights to more than 180 airports on six continents, the phrase "significant expansion" certainly raises expectations that this is not a single route but a broader move.

And there's also a prize for those who can correctly read the clues. As part of the campaign's contest, participants can try to guess the new destinations, with the grand prize being a two-way flight to any destination on Air Canada's network. However, the contest itself is open to Canadian residents only, according to the company's terms and conditions.
Beyond the marketing game, the upcoming announcement is particularly interesting from an aviation perspective. The major airlines are already deep into building their summer 2027 route map, and a significant expansion by Air Canada could affect competition on transatlantic routes, connections between North America and Europe, and additional markets that the company chooses to enter or return to.
Right now, Air Canada manages to leave the most important part out of the frame: Where is it actually starting to fly.
