This is the low-cost carrier's seventh base in the country, as part of its continued expansion in the Italian market.
As PassportNews reported earlier this year, Wizz Air will deploy two Airbus A321neo aircraft to Turin as part of the move. The first aircraft will enter service when the base opens, while the second is expected to join on October 25, 2026.
The opening of the base marks a significant expansion of Wizz Air's network from Turin, which will include 23 routes to 10 countries. The company is expected to offer approximately 1.3 million seats from the city this year.
With the opening of the base, new routes to Barcelona, Bilbao and Rome-Fiumicino will be launched, and on Tuesday, September 15, the line to Valencia will also be added. Barcelona and Rome will each receive 11 weekly flights, Bilbao 3 weekly flights, and Valencia 4.
The next phase will come with the winter flight schedule. Starting October 25, Wizz Air will operate new routes to Lamezia Terme and Madrid, and later Malaga, Sharm el-Sheikh, Naples, and Suceava will be added.
Starting January 16, 2027, the company will also expand its winter operations from Turin through four seasonal lines designated, among other things, for ski vacation traffic: Wroclaw, Gdansk, Katowice and Prague.
Mauro Paeneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, noted that the opening of the base is a strategic step designed to make Piedmont more connected and competitive in the European arena, through a network of high-frequency flights at accessible prices.
The CEO of Turin Airport, Andrea Andorno, also welcomed the opening of the base and noted that expanding the route network and increasing travel options will strengthen the airport's competitiveness and direct accessibility.
