Home2 Suites by Hilton. Photo: © 2026 Hilton Hilton has introduced a new Home2 Suites by Hilton Clean Energy Prototype, giving U.S. hotel owners and developers an optional turnkey design aimed at reducing energy costs and operational carbon emissions.
The prototype combines all-electric systems, renewable energy and an enhanced building envelope. Hilton describes it as the company's first hotel prototype designed with zero operational emissions to be made widely available to owners and developers.
Home2 Suites by Hilton. Photo: © 2026 HiltonThe company developed the design as hotel utility costs continue to rise. Hilton cited American Hotel & Lodging Association data showing that U.S. hotel utility costs have increased 28% over the past five years.
According to Hilton's modeling across 13 U.S. cities, the Clean Energy Prototype could increase energy efficiency by 30% and reduce annual energy costs by between 18% and 40%, compared with a traditional Home2 Suites prototype using conventional energy sources.
The model is also expected to reduce operational carbon emissions by 440 metric tons, although Hilton notes that the figure depends on market conditions and the energy sources used.
The new design includes both on-site and off-site renewable energy, along with building features intended to improve energy performance. Hilton says the approach is designed to reduce operating costs while potentially supporting higher property valuations over the life of a hotel.

Photo: © 2026 HiltonHome2 Suites already incorporates a range of efficiency measures into its hotel designs, including energy-efficient building and roofing materials, water-conscious landscaping, ENERGY STAR-rated appliances, LED lighting, reusable dishware and saline pools.
The new prototype is optional, meaning owners and developers can choose whether to adopt the Clean Energy design when developing a Home2 Suites property.
Hilton said the initiative is part of its broader Travel with Purpose sustainability strategy and comes as hotel owners face higher energy expenses and growing demand for practical sustainability measures.
The company is also expanding energy procurement services through Hilton Supply Management. Hilton said the program helped participating hotel owners save approximately 17% on energy costs in 2025 and avoided more than 102,130 metric tons of CO₂.
The Clean Energy Prototype is currently designed for the U.S. market, where Hilton sees Home2 Suites' large development pipeline as an opportunity to introduce the design across a growing number of new extended-stay properties.
