Greek airline AEGEAN continues to expand its international network of destinations, with a significant move in the Middle East. The company announced the launch of a new direct route between Athens and Damascus, the capital of Syria.

The Damascus route is expected to launch on December 2, 2026. During the winter season, up to four flights will be operated weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flights will arrive at Damascus International Airport, thus adding the Syrian capital to the company's international destination network from Athens.

The airline notes that the network expansion is part of a strategy to strengthen Greece's international connectivity and position Athens Airport as a significant aviation hub in the region.

The expansion does not end in Syria. The company announced that it is also considering entering North Africa, with Libya as the destination planned to join the network in May 2027.

As part of the plan, Aegean is expected to operate direct flights from Athens to Tripoli and Benghazi. However, the opening of the routes is conditional on the completion of the necessary tests and regulatory procedures.

At the same time, on October 23, 2026, direct flights between Athens and Dubai, another major and attractive destination in the Middle East, are expected to resume.
