American Airlines has resumed flights to Haiti, launching daily nonstop service between Miami and Cap-Haïtien and marking a significant milestone in the carrier's centennial year. The new route restores the airline's presence in the country and becomes the 100th destination in its Caribbean and Latin America network.

The inaugural service began on November 1, 2026, connecting Miami International Airport (MIA) with Cap-Haïtien International Airport (CAP). The route operates daily using Boeing 737 aircraft, offering passengers in Haiti access to Miami and more than 90 onward connections across the United States through American's hub.

The company began service to Haiti in 1971, and it is now returning to CAP after more than six years.

The launch also marks an important expansion of American's regional network, as the airline continues to strengthen its position in the Caribbean and Latin America during its 100th anniversary year.

"Reaching a milestone 100 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America highlights both our rich history and our unmatched footprint in the region," said José A. Freig, American's Vice President of International Operations.

He also pointed to the airline's recent return to Venezuela, saying the continued expansion of its regional network reflects the company's long-standing presence and commitment to the markets it serves.

The first flight carried an additional symbolic significance. American operated the inaugural service with an all-Haitian, Creole-speaking flight crew led by Captain Oliver Jean.

The airline said the crew reflected its longstanding connection with Haiti and its commitment to providing passengers with a welcoming travel experience.

The new service is also particularly relevant to South Florida, which has strong ties to Haiti through its Haitian community and longstanding connections with the Caribbean nation.

Juan Carlos Liscano, American's Senior Vice President of MIA Operations, said restoring the connection was important for communities on both sides of the route.

He added that American is preparing to operate its largest-ever winter schedule from Miami, with the Haiti service forming part of its broader expansion.

Miami is American's most internationally connected hub, with more than 410 peak daily flights to over 170 destinations across 46 countries. The airport serves as a major gateway between the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.

The airline is also planning significant investments in its Miami operations. These include a proposed redevelopment of Concourse D, with additional gates and improvements to international operations and passenger facilities.

American is also preparing to introduce a new Flagship lounge and expand its Admirals Club lounge at gate D30, adding to its premium passenger services.

Its winter schedule, described by the company as "the largest-ever winter schedule", will include increased frequencies on several Caribbean and Latin American routes, including services to San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola, Exuma, St. Kitts and Rio de Janeiro.

American has also been rebuilding its connections with Venezuela. Earlier in 2026, it became the first airline to restore nonstop service between the United States and Venezuela in seven years, with flights between Miami and Caracas. It subsequently introduced service to Maracaibo and announced a new route to Barcelona, Venezuela, scheduled to begin on January 15, 2027.
