New giant deal in the global aviation industry: American aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced today (Wednesday, November 4) the completion of an order for 140 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, the largest version of the 737 MAX family, for the international aircraft leasing company Avolon

According to a Boeing announcement, this is a record order for 737 MAX aircraft from the leasing company, and it increases Avolon's backlog of open orders for the aircraft family to more than 240 aircraft.

The announcement comes at a time when airlines continue to invest in fleet renewal and capacity expansion, alongside increasing competition for operational efficiency, fuel savings and reducing costs per seat.

The deal includes 140 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, intended to be integrated into airline fleets through future lease agreements.

This is the largest model in the 737 MAX family, capable of accommodating up to 230 passengers in a crowded seating configuration, and offering a flight range of approximately 5,740 kilometers.

According to Boeing, the aircraft was developed to help airlines add seats on short- and medium-haul flights while improving fuel efficiency and operating costs per seat.

The huge order strengthens the model's presence in the narrow-body aircraft market, which is considered one of the main growth engines of the commercial aviation industry.

In its official announcement, Boeing notes that during 2026, aircraft leasing companies ordered more than 230 737-10 aircraft.

This is five times the volume of orders from leasing companies for this model at the end of 2025.

The increase reflects airlines' growing preference for narrow-body aircraft with greater capacity, capable of serving high-demand routes without the need for wide-body aircraft.

According to Boeing forecasts, global passenger traffic is expected to grow by about 4% annually over the next two decades.

The company estimates this trend will continue to support demand for new aircraft, especially models that offer increased capacity and improved economic efficiency.

Andy Cronin, Avolon's CEO, said the new deal strengthens the company's ability to meet growing demand for new-generation aircraft.

According to him, the combination of economic efficiency and passenger capacity offered by the 737-10 model makes it particularly attractive to airlines.

Cronin noted that the order strengthens the company's long-term delivery plan and will allow it to support the expansion and renewal of airline fleets well into the next decade.

Boeing also sees the deal as a significant milestone. Brad McMullen, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Boeing's commercial airplane division, emphasized that Avolon's expansion of the MAX fleet will allow its customers to replace older aircraft, improve route economics and reduce operating costs.

A Company That Supplies Aircraft to 138 Airlines

Avolon is considered one of the largest aircraft finance and leasing companies in the world. As of the end of September 2026, the company worked with 138 airlines in 62 countries, and had a fleet of 1,092 aircraft under ownership, management and future purchase commitments.

This scope of activity allows it to influence fleet renewal processes for many airlines worldwide.

Instead of each airline being required to finance the purchase of new aircraft itself, leasing companies like Avolon purchase aircraft from manufacturers and lease them to operators, according to their needs.

Boeing Strengthens in the Narrow-Body Aircraft Market

According to Boeing, aircraft leasing companies have so far ordered more than 1,450 737 MAX aircraft, which represents about 20% of the company's order backlog for this family. 737s also account for about 30% of all aircraft financed in the aircraft leasing industry, according to the manufacturer.

The new order strengthens Boeing's position in the large narrow-body aircraft market, where it competes with the Airbus A320neo family, and especially with the A321neo model.

Despite announcing the completion of the order, Boeing did not disclose the financial value of the deal or a detailed delivery schedule in its current announcement. However, the exceptional scale of the order positions it as one of the most significant aviation deals of 2026, and illustrates the long-term investments required to support the expected growth in global passenger traffic.
