Travel Alert: Curfews and Disruptions in Tanzania After Elections. The warning was issued against the backdrop of violent incidents, damage to public infrastructure, and significant disruptions to stability and mobility in the country following the October 29, 2025 elections.
The announcement noted that in the coming weeks, tourists and visitors may experience widespread disruptions to routine, including a nationwide curfew, roadblocks, internet shutdowns, cancellations of cruises to Zanzibar, and even international flight cancellations.
Additionally, it has been reported that foreign citizens are receiving increased attention from local security forces, including phone and electronic device checks for sensitive political content.
The embassy notes that its ability to assist citizens during riots is limited during periods of instability, and that it can be contacted by phone, on its website, by mail, or upon arrival at the scene.
Citizens were also given recommendations on how to behave during a period of unrest, including avoiding crowds, preparing for the possibility of staying at home for an extended period, following the authorities' instructions, and verifying flights in advance with the selected airlines.
