Winter weather is once again taking a toll on aviation in Europe. Vienna Airport was closed to takeoffs and landings this morning (January 13, 2026) due to severe weather conditions prevailing in the area.
"Possible disruptions due to weather; please allow extra time for your journey to the airport," says their website announcement.
"Due to weather conditions, disruptions to flights to and from Vienna are anticipated on 13 January 2026. We recommend that all passengers check their flight status with their airline regularly. Information on arrivals and departures is available at https://www.viennaairport.com/abfluege."
Passengers were also asked to allow extra time for their journeys to the airport.
Bratislava Airport followed suit, issuing the following announcement:
"Due to adverse meteorological conditions on the runway, the airport will be closed on 13. 1. 2026 until 11:15 a.m. As a result, flight delays are expected during the morning hours. An emergency operations team is in session to assess runway braking action and determine when the airport can safely resume operations."
Management also advised passengers to closely follow updates on the airport's website, their airline's mobile applications, and public address announcements at the airport to get the latest information on their departures.
Austrian authorities have issued a warning of snow and severe weather conditions, with temperatures in the capital city ranging between zero and three degrees below zero all week.
