According to the data, Southern Europe accounts for 11.71% of all international travel intentions in the world this summer, an increase of 2.47% compared to summer 2025. Greece, Spain and Italy are leading the trend, thanks to the development of the flight route network and the continued demand for sun and sea holidays in the Mediterranean.
Athens stands out in the study results, with the sharpest increase in the region, up 0.23% from last year. It is followed by Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, and Milan, which also show significant demand growth.

West Asia is also affected, with a 2.69% decline in market share, amid security tensions and ongoing impacts on aviation in the region.
North America is seeing a more than 1% increase in international demand, thanks in part to the World Cup and other U.S. sporting events. South America and the Caribbean are also enjoying significant growth in demand, while Northern Europe is witnessing a growing trend of "Coolcations", vacations in cooler regions, with growing demand for London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Copenhagen and Iceland.
The data indicates that many travelers this year prefer closer, more stable, and more accessible destinations, a trend that continues to strengthen Southern Europe's position as one of the most sought-after tourist regions in the world.
