Passengers traveling through Heathrow Airport this summer are being encouraged to take advantage of a range of airport services designed to make their journeys smoother and more comfortable.

The airport recently reminded travelers that they can recharge their devices before boarding using their free Power Pole charging stations located throughout the terminals.

Charging Bank Rules Heathrow Airport Rules

At London Heathrow (LHR), charging banks (power banks) must be carried exclusively in your hand luggage.

They are strictly banned from checked bags due to fire risks.

  • Capacity Limit: Power banks must not exceed 100Wh (Watt-hours). Most standard portable chargers fall within this, but always double-check the label.
  • Markings: The Wh rating must be clearly printed on the device. Unmarked chargers risk confiscation.
  • Quantity cap: You are typically limited to a maximum of 2 power banks per person.
  • At security: Take your power bank out of your bag and place it in the security tray, similar to a laptop.
  • On board: Power banks must be switched off and protected to avoid accidental activation. You cannot plug your power bank into an in-seat aircraft plug to recharge it.

More Tips for the Summer

As one of Europe's busiest airports, Heathrow says staying connected is important for passengers navigating check-in, security, and boarding processes.

The airport also pointed travelers towards its lounges, including No. 1 Lounges and Plaza Premium Lounges, which are available across all terminals. The lounges offer seating areas, workspaces, food, drinks, reading materials, and even cinema facilities for those facing longer waits or delays.

For passengers looking to avoid buying expensive snacks onboard, Heathrow recommends picking up food before departure. Options range from picnic hampers and prepared meals to sandwiches and salads available from airport restaurants and retailers.

Meanwhile, travelers with long layovers or short stays in London can use baggage storage facilities across the airport's terminals, allowing them to explore the city without carrying extra luggage.

The tips come as Heathrow prepares for another busy summer travel period, with millions of passengers expected to pass through the airport in the coming months.
