United Airlines today (Monday, June 15, 2026) unveiled a new special design for its aircraft to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The new livery, called "Stars and Stripes," will appear starting this summer on Boeing 787-10 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft built in the United States, and will combine red, white, and blue, alongside 50 stars representing the country's states.
The new aircraft also features a special plaque dedicated to the military, reservists, and veterans employed by the company. The design was unveiled at an event at Washington Dulles Airport, attended by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, United CEO Scott Kirby, employees and local officials.
Along with the launch of the new design, United announced a significant milestone in its military pilot recruitment program. Since 2024, the company has welcomed nearly 600 pilots who have completed military service, and the company estimates that about 500 more will join by the end of 2027.
The program allows active-duty or reserve pilots to receive a conditional job offer with the company before they are discharged from the military, ensuring a smoother transition to a civilian career in aviation. United currently employs more than 18,000 pilots, including more than 4,500 military veterans.
In addition, the company operates a variety of support programs for military personnel, reservists and their families, including collaborations with relief organizations for discharged soldiers, flight donations and professional mentoring programs.
Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, said: "America is the greatest country in the world, and we're proud to play a role in celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary. For 100 years of that history, United has been a pioneering U.S. company, investing in people and communities across the country. Today, we proudly employ more than 8,300 military veterans, of which 1,500 are active members of the National Guard and Reserve forces. Our 'Stars and Stripes' livery pays tribute to their service to our country that continues to make America strong."
United States Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, "It's great to see United join this administration's call to celebrate America's historic birthday," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P.
