Etihad Airways has launched daily Airbus A380 service between Abu Dhabi and Tokyo, marking the first time the airline's flagship double-decker aircraft has operated scheduled flights to Japan.
The inaugural A380 flight landed at Tokyo Narita International Airport on June 18, 2026, becoming a major milestone in Etihad's expansion in the Japanese market and bringing significantly increased capacity to the route.
Introducing The Residence
The deployment of the superjumbo also introduces Etihad's most exclusive premium products to Japan, including The Residence, the airline's ultra-luxury three-room suite available only on the Airbus A380.
"Tokyo has long held a special place in the hearts of our guests, and today, we are proud to meet that affection with a truly extraordinary aircraft," said Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways.
"The introduction of the A380 reinforces our commitment to the Japanese market, responding to robust demand for premium travel connecting Abu Dhabi and Tokyo."
The Tokyo route becomes the eighth destination served by an Etihad A380 following the gradual return of the aircraft type to the airline's fleet.

The upper deck houses nine First Class suites and 70 Business Class seats, along with The Lobby, a lounge and bar area available to premium passengers during the flight.
Economy Class features 415 seats equipped with the airline's fixed-wing headrests and upgraded comfort features.
The biggest attraction remains The Residence, widely regarded as one of the most luxurious commercial airline products in the world. Located at the front of the upper deck, the suite includes a private living room, separate bedroom, and an ensuite bathroom complete with a shower. Guests also receive personalized service from a dedicated cabin crew member and access to bespoke dining experiences.
Etihad's First Class passengers also benefit from access to an onboard shower room, a feature offered by only a handful of airlines worldwide.
