Travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport are being advised to allow extra time after the airport reported network issues affecting parking payment systems.

In a statement posted on Monday at midnight local time (10:00 PM GMT), airport officials said the disruption is impacting payment systems at parking lots and garages across the airport. Staff have been deployed on site to assist motorists entering and exiting affected facilities.

The airport did not provide an estimate for when the issue will be resolved, but warned that delays are possible while the systems remain affected.

The issue is expected to create bottlenecks for passengers driving to or from the airport during a FIFA World Cup match day bertween Norway and Senegal at the New York/New Jersey stadium (Metlife Stadium), and authorities have already designated June 22 as a Gridlock Alert Day because of the expected influx of fans and heavy regional traffic.

New York City is also preparing for heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible flash flooding today.

Newark Liberty International Airport has previously issued an advisory warning passengers of increased congestion on key match days as the United States hosts the largest FIFA World Cup tournament ever staged.
