Passengers traveling to and from Rome's Fiumicino Airport this summer are being advised to check their rail journeys in advance after planned overnight maintenance work prompted changes to several train services.
Rome Airports (Aeroporti di Roma) said that, according to Trenitalia, trains serving Fiumicino Airport may experience route limitations and cancellations between June 30 and September 3, 2026 due to scheduled engineering works.
The disruption will mainly affect services on selected nights between the end of June and early September, including the Leonardo Express, the direct rail link between Roma Termini and Fiumicino Airport, as well as regional FL1 services. During the affected periods, some trains will be canceled, operate on shortened routes or be replaced by buses.
According to Trenitalia, the maintenance work will take place at Roma Trastevere station. On affected evenings, the final Leonardo Express departures will operate earlier than usual, with replacement bus services provided afterward. Regional trains on the FL1 line may also be subject to timetable changes, partial cancellations and route modifications.
Passengers are advised to check the latest timetable before traveling and allow extra time for airport transfers, as replacement buses may take longer depending on road traffic. Last week, taxi services in Rome were also affected by a taxi drivers' strike that lasted for 24 hours.
