Travelers in northern Spain have a new option for getting to the heart of Europe this summer.

Spanish airport operator Aena, which recently announced it would modernize Zaragoza Airport's longest runway to support growing air cargo demand and improve operations for large aircraft, today, July 16, 2026, announced that Luxembourg's national flag carrier Luxair has launched a new direct connection between Bilbao Airport and Luxembourg.

The seasonal route will operate twice a week, with flights departing on Thursdays and Sundays until the end of the 2026 summer schedule.

The new service further expands Bilbao Airport's international network and provides passengers with a convenient link to Luxembourg, one of Europe's leading financial and business hubs.

The route is also expected to benefit leisure travelers looking to explore the Grand Duchy, known for its historic old town, castles, and proximity to neighboring Belgium, France, and Germany.

For Luxair, the addition strengthens its footprint in the Spanish market during the peak travel season, while Aena continues to focus on increasing connectivity across its airport network.

Bilbao has seen growing interest from airlines in recent years thanks to its mix of business travel and tourism appeal. Visitors to the Basque city are drawn by attractions such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, its renowned gastronomy, and easy access to the Atlantic coastline.

The launch comes as European carriers continue to add seasonal routes to meet strong summer demand, with airports across the continent reporting increased passenger numbers and a broader range of destinations than in previous years.

For travelers planning a late-summer getaway, the new Bilbao-Luxembourg connection offers another direct gateway between Spain and central Europe.
