Photo: Shutterstock An American Airlines flight was forced to return to Myrtle Beach International Airport after its crew reported striking a bird shortly after takeoff on Monday, August 10.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, American Airlines Flight 1760 landed safely back at Myrtle Beach at around 8:40 a.m. local time after the bird strike was reported during departure.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
Bird strikes are a known aviation hazard, particularly during takeoff and landing when aircraft are operating at lower altitudes. In March, Newark Liberty Airport recorded a similar incident when a United Airlines flight was forced to return to its tracks minutes after takeoff. The crew then reported a cracked windshield in the cockpit and a possible air compression problem
