Korean Air. Photo: Minh Tuan Pham / Shutterstock.com Korean Air has finalized an order for 103 Boeing aircraft, completing a major fleet purchase that includes both widebody and single-aisle jets as well as new freighter aircraft.
Boeing and Korean Air announced the finalized order on September 16, confirming that the deal consists of 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, 25 787-10 Dreamliners, 50 737-10s and eight 777-8 Freighters.
The order fulfills a procurement commitment Korean Air announced in August 2025. Boeing said the previously unidentified order was formally commemorated at an event attended by senior executives from both companies, along with government and financial officials from the United States and South Korea.
Among those attending were Korean Air Chairman and CEO Walter Cho, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope and CFM International President and CEO Gaël Méheust. U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Michelle Steel and Republic of Korea Minister of Trade, Industry and Resources Kim Jung-kwan were also present.
The aircraft mix gives Korean Air additional capacity across several parts of its operation. The 777-9 and 787-10 will add new-generation widebody aircraft, while the 737-10 will expand the airline's single-aisle fleet. The eight 777-8 Freighters will support its cargo operation.
The 777-9 is part of Boeing's latest 777X family, while the 787-10 belongs to the Dreamliner family. The 737-10 is the largest model in Boeing's 737 MAX family.
Boeing described the finalized purchase as an outcome of bilateral trade negotiations between the United States and South Korea, saying it also reflects the ongoing industrial relationship between the two countries.
The agreement is particularly significant for Boeing as Korean Air is one of the major airlines in the Asian market. The purchase also comes as the carrier continues work on the future composition of its fleet.
Korean Air has been operating a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, while its network includes long-haul services connecting South Korea with destinations across North America, Europe and other international markets.
The new order will eventually give the airline additional aircraft for both passenger and cargo operations as the planes are delivered.
The event also brought together representatives from the aviation industry, government and finance sectors. Boeing said the purchase highlights the role of aerospace manufacturing and aircraft exports in U.S.-South Korean trade.
