The German Federal Cartel Office approved the purchase of a 10% stake in airBaltic by Lufthansa, granting it a seat on the board. Despite direct competition on several routes between Germany and the Baltic states, the merger was permitted under the de minimis merger law

The merger of the two companies will be completed by 2027, and the combined company KOREAN will be the 12th largest airline in the world in terms of international capacity
