Travelers arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport are being advised to consider alternative transportation options after the airport reported a "shortage of taxis due to increased demand".
In an alert posted on social media, the airport said it is currently experiencing a lack of available taxis, which could lead to longer wait times for passengers seeking ground transportation.
Alternative Transportation
Airport officials encouraged travelers to use public transportation services or ride-share apps as alternatives while demand remains elevated.
You can take the AirTrain Newark from any terminal to the Newark Liberty Airport rail station. From there, you can connect to NJ Transit trains heading to New York City Penn Station or Newark.

You can also opt for the Newark Airport Express, which offers dedicated coach service between the airport and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Bryant Park, or Grand Central Terminal. This alternative is suitable when heading to Manhattan.
Local buses are another alternative, as several routes connect the airport with Newark and surrounding communities.
The advisory comes during a busy travel period, when airports across the United States are experiencing increased passenger volumes, with emphasis on the World Cup 2026 games taking place at stadiums around the country. Travelers arriving at Newark are advised to plan their onward journeys in advance and allow extra time when leaving the airport.
