Miami International Airport has unveiled a series of patriotic tributes to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, including a ceremonial display of 70 American flags and the installation of a new public artwork inspired by the American flag and the former Twin Towers.

During a special ceremony in the airport's Central Garden, Miami Mayor Daniella Levine Cava joined airport officials and military veterans to replace the airport's usual display of 70 international flags with 70 U.S. flags, representing the countries served by nonstop flights from Miami.

The event concluded with a flyover by three helicopters from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. The American flags will remain on display throughout July.

Mayor Levine Cava said the display offers travelers passing through one of the world's busiest international airports a visible tribute to the nation's milestone anniversary.

New Sculpture Unveiled at Airport Entrance

Following the flag-raising ceremony, officials also dedicated "Renaissance of Towers," a 20-foot-tall, three-ton stainless steel sculpture by internationally renowned artist Helidon Xhixha.

Installed at the airport's Central Boulevard entrance, the artwork was originally completed in 2007 and has previously been exhibited in cities including Venice, Florence, Berlin, Como and Milan.

The sculpture reflects imagery of the American flag while drawing inspiration from New York City's former Twin Towers as a tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks.

Valued at $400,000, the artwork was donated to Miami-Dade County through a partnership involving Xhixha, AUM Construction and the Miami-based Melo Group.

According to airport officials, the monument now stands alongside a roadway used by more than 47,000 vehicles every day, creating a new landmark for visitors arriving at Miami International Airport.

As a reminder, United AirlinesAmerican Airlines, and jetBlue have already displayed special livery on the occassion of the 250th anniversary. Carnival Cruise Line has also kicked off its America250 celebrations in Baltimore aboard Carnival Pride.
