After about five years of intense work, the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority and the FAA approved the engineering conversion project led by IAI, increasing the cargo capacity of the aircraft up to 100 tons. The IAI innovation is designed to tow aircraft without activating engines, saving jet fuel and reducing pollution in airports. In 2009, IAI collaborated with the French company TLD to manufacture the tug, with the first prototype built in France in 2011.
